KATHMANDU....The forgotten piece of Nepal

12,700 people killed (over 4,000 by Maoists and 8,200 by the government)

Only 8 million of the country's 23 million citizen are functionally literate...

GDP growth rate in Nepal is among the lowest in the region with just 3.8% over the past 5 years

Over 9 million Nepali are living on earning less then a dollar a day

Nepal having a rise in inflation rate from 2.4% in 2001 to 8.1% in 2006(almost double digits)

But WE people in Katmandu are too busy bettering our selves to do much to them .AS the political parties wrangled for power ,We the young people spend our days watching movies in Jai Nepal ..Hanging out in HIMALIYAN Java a hip cafe at thamel and enjoying ourselves at parties and gathering in some five star hotel or club... We applied for better and better education some in Nepal some abroad ...Buy marvelous gadgets and ride fancy cars and bikes that are newly available in market... WE people in kathmandu need an excuse to party does not matter if it is DASHAI or CHirstmas ..Shivarati or valentine day ..baishak ek gatey or new years we have to party ..
We out of our Liberal guilt enjoying our beer and momo in the weekend we voice occasionally “KATTAM CHA KATTAM NEPAL KO HALAT" the government is not doing anything for the people
THE PEOPLE?
You know, THE POOR PEOPLE

On 16 February 1996 ,the communist party of Nepal (Maoist) a party about which a little was known launched what is called a 'People’s WAR' by attacking banks in Gorkha District and burning the land deeds that villagers had placed as a collateral against loans . They attacked police posts in Rolpha and Rukum Districts in the west and set of a bomb at a soft drinking bottling plants in Katmandu .They attacked a liquor manufacture in gorkha ......we in Katmandu didn’t take this war seriously .The people movements of 1990 .JHAN ANDOLAN
Had spread enlargement aspirations throughout Nepal .But because political parties were so occupied with their own power struggles, majority of People had received very little from democracy.

I went to Nepal to visit my family this winter. I was in hotel Arnapurna having a family dinner .I looked at the crowd of Kathmandu, a blithe...care free people and I found I was one of them. The hotel was filled with people of my economical class -the Katmandu bourgeoisie .who were unaffected ,in any real sense ,by the failure of democratic politics .
I was enjoying my special Nepali dishes with sukuti ko acchar and sipping my lassi,A young man who had his hair spiked up.wearing a tshirt which said "MY DAD is an ATM" and a earring and a bulky DOCTOR martins sat next to me .He was my cousin .I said hi to him and asked him ..
“Ma sanga bholi British COUNCIL jhan chas tyaa “ DEVELOPING NEPAL” bhaanni seminar chali ra cha re “? (Do u wants to go with me to attend a seminar?)
He replied
“Hyaaa Shabda dada ko jaaoshh bholi concert cha tyaa jaam na k testo boring place jani”
I could see my self in him when I was 17.The age which one wants to smash all that is tradition the one which one wants to destroy the old and usher the new ....

I think those in Kathmandu are mimicking the west and those in villages are joining the Maoist. They are both in there own ways trying to force a change.
That night It occurred to me If the kathmandu youth ignore his country’s trouble .try to avoid bad politics … Then MY life is so aimless. I ain’t saying go start marches and demonstrations... or join a political party...just try to make a difference with the possible resources you have ….
while writing this note I am listening to x marika’s HAMRO NEPAL … I want to share few lines with you guys
